Computer Literacy at TVLA

The TVLA Computer Skills program is up and running! We teach essential computer skills at the Basic and Intermediate levels. Our 12-session curriculum is described below; you can also work away at your own pace, if you prefer.

Basic Computers

  • Basics: Using Windows, organizing files and troubleshooting common problems
  • Word Processing: Learn to write, edit, format and save documents on Microsoft Word
  • Spreadsheets: Organizing tables and numbers on Microsoft Excel
  • Internet: Surfing the Web, searching for information and avoiding scams.
  • Email: Students will set up and learn to use Web-based email accounts

Objective: Students should understand how to comfortably use a computer for basic tasks, such as study or recreation.

Intermediate Computers

  • Spreadsheets: Using formulas and graphs.
  • Desktop Publishing: Creating documents that use words, images, and special elements together on Microsoft Publisher or Microsoft Word.
  • Presentations: Using Microsoft PowerPoint to create slide presentations.
  • Databases: Basic database concepts on Microsoft Access
  • Internet- Special Topics: Planned: Using the Internet for research and social media such as Facebook. Topics will change based on student needs and interests.

Objective: Students should be able to perform basic computer tasks in an office environment, or move forward to additional continuing education courses.
